Responsible Recycler Scheme (RRS) tonnages on upward trend in 2008
In the first half of 2008 end of life tyre tonnages handled by the Tyre Industry Federation's Responsible Recycler Scheme increased to 223,600 tonnes, up 23.7% over the same period in 2007.
The TIF RRS is the UK tyre industry's own best practice scheme operated on behalf of the tyre industry by members of the Tyre Recovery Association. This latest performance confirms that over 75% of UK total tyre arisings are now handled by RRS-accredited collectors and processors.
Accredited scheme members are subject to regular audit to confirm their compliance with applicable regulations and best practice procedures.
As a result of the EU Landfill Directive virtually all used tyre arisings must be beneficially recovered.
