Long committed to best practice in used tyre recycling Tyre Maintenance management is publicly demonstrating its stated commitment.

Throughout 2011 there will be a truly industry leading programme of public commitment to safe tyre recycling. Tyre Maintenance outlets, vehicles, documentation and letter heading will be progressively branded with the UK tyre industry's Responsible Recycler Scheme (RRS) logo and staff will be tutored to understand just what this implies for the customer and for the environment in a ground-breaking point of same message .

Tyre Maintenance takes a holistic approach to the business of tyre and management service provision ensuring that peripheral activities stand up to the same scrutiny as its mainstream business. Paul Fields, Director of Sales and Operations comments; "The RRS does excellent work in ensuring that all members work to recognised standards; it made sense for us to join and assist in raising the professionalism and data capture within the UK tyre market. To also provide customers with the reassurance of best environmental practice in the form of a robust and audited waste stream for used tyres is an additional advantage we are delighted to provide. Responsible Recycler Scheme – A uniquely successful industry initiative

Each year Britain discards almost 50 million old tyres which all need to be reprocessed or recycled. To handle all of these tyres efficiently and responsibly this unique industry partnership was created.
Membership includes tyre collectors, recyclers and reprocessors in recognition of their common interests and in acknowledgement of the important role they all have in helping tyre manufacturers, retailers and indeed the Government itself meet the EU Landfill Directive. (The Landfill Directive which came into full effect in July 2006 requires that virtually all end of life tyres be recycled or re-used in some new way).

Transparency, traceability and accountability are cornerstones of the scheme. Responsible retailers, fleet companies and other users of tyres who use Scheme Members have the guarantee that their tyres are disposed of in an environmentally friendly and acceptable method, whether recycled or used as a fuel in cement kilns; this helps them comply with their Duty of Care obligations as well as protecting the environment. Scheme members are subject to a stringent annual audit process conducted regularly by independent environmental audit specialists.
